Abstract:
In this thesis, Fertek Church Mosque, located in Fertek Neighborhood of Niğde Province, Merkez District, is the subject. There are many 19th century church structures in and around Niğde. After the population exchange that took place as a result of the Treaty of Lausanne, these structures were destroyed due to neglect, unconscious repair and inadequacy of protection measures. Fertek Church is one of the structures that can preserve its originality to a large extent, since it underwent a change in function after the proclamation of the republic and was used as a mosque. Fertek Church Mosque was chosen because of its unique architectural style, wooden decorations and frescoes that have been preserved until today, although it has a mosque function compared to other buildings. The aim of this study is to determine the condition of the existing structure and to ensure the transfer of this cultural heritage to future generations by carrying out the restoration, taking into account the necessary arrangements for the access of children and elderly user groups. Within the scope of the study, the current state of the building and the changes made were documented, the recent church structures in Niğde and its surroundings were examined and the original state was determined by making a comparative study. In the light of the data collected as a result of the study, a sustainable restoration proposal was prepared for the child and elderly user groups with the necessary physical interventions.
