Abstract:

The aim of this study is to determine the differences between the music listening habits of teacher candidates who receive education in music teaching and other teaching programs. While the universe of the research comprises of music teacher candidates who study at the universities in Turkey and teacher candidates who study in other teaching programs; the sample of the research comprises of teacher candidates who study at the Gazi University music teaching program and nine other teaching programs in the fall semester of the 2016- 2017 academic year. Descriptive survey model was employed in this study. The data were collected through a questionnaire prepared on a 5-point likert scale. There are 15 questions in the questionnaire. The data obtained from the questionnaire, which was applied to teacher candidates, were subjected to computer analysis via the IBM SPSS 21 software, frequency and percentages of the data were examined and the Independent Samples t Test, one of the statistical analysis methods, was applied. As a result of the research, a significant difference was found between the music listening habits of the two groups. It was established that the music listening habits of the teacher candidates who receive music education at undergraduate level are shaped more positively by the education they received.
