Abstract:Construction equipment operate in harsh environments due to their purpose. Specialized for different tasks, these machines are complex vehicles for users. From time to time, complexities of these machines cause some difficulties and problems in their usage. Thus evaluating different usage scenarios will help to define the possible enhancements in user interaction while working with them. This study focuses on possible enhancements by evaluating human machine interaction in crawler excavators. Cognitive work analysis (CWA), which is chosen and applied analysis method within the scope of the study, examines the system in detail by dividing it into sub-components as operator, excavator and environment. This analysis method allows to evaluate human machine interaction by considering different working scenarios of the system. By using CWA, this study aims to search possible enhancements on system performance by decomposing into sub components of system to find the actions and situations which are effective on system performance. In order to do so, the first two steps of CWA as Work Domain Analysis (WDA) and Control Task Analysis (ConTA) are applied.
