Abstract:

In this thesis, the process from the draft presentation of the Quran Installation project, which was built in the Manuscripts Hall of the Ankara Ethnography Museum, to the manufacturing stages, is discussed. At the beginning of the thesis, researches on contemporary art were made and current installation examples were classified in terms of the place they were applied and compared through paintings. Architectural components and construction elements that are effective in the construction of these projects, which are similar in terms of application method, have been identified and researched. In the field study of the thesis, the Quran Installation project was examined in detail. In addition to the conceptual meaning of art, calculations based on mathematical data were made in terms of application method and materials used. The reason behind the difference between the materials recommended in the design of the project and the ones preferred in manufacturing has been examined in detail. The reasons for the use of mdf instead of the composite panel in the design presentation, fishing line instead of fiber hanging rods and the use of decota and plexi together for the production of words that are completely plexi have been reached. The underlying reason for this difference depends on the maximum amount of load that the suspended ceiling can handle. Accordingly, it has been observed that the total load of the materials planned to be used in the design exceeds the amount of load formed in the suspended ceiling rods. Therefore, the architect preferred to use other alternative materials to sustain the system. In practice, while the weight of the system was calculated by establishing the mass and gravity equations, the reaction occurring in the suspension rods and the tension of the fishing line were found with the force equations. In this way, it has been seen that the reasons why some words prefer decota and some prefer plexi material in the production of words depend on the force that the line can stay taut. The aim of this thesis is to find answers to the questions of how the Holy Quran Installation was built and why these materials were chosen. The aim of the thesis is to prove that the design fiction of a work cannot be considered separately from the information about its manufacture. In contemporary art, as the work progresses in parallel with technological methods, the artist needs to develop by mastering these application areas. In this context, the hypothesis of the thesis has been confirmed and the examined contemporary installation art, the Holy Quran Installation, shows that art is a multidisciplinary formation that includes many branches of science in the production process and requires expert mathematics physics calculations.
