Abstract:

Endoscopic ultrasonography or endosonography (EUS) is an endoscopic method that is becoming increasingly important. The primary outcome of EUS is the using transabdominal ultrasonography in situations where it is insufficient. EUS is not affected by discomforts such as intestinal gas, obesity which causes problems in the imaging of retroperitoneal organs. Another important feature of EUS is no contrast requirement. In addition to these and similar advantages, EUS is sensitive to the experience of the physician. Therefore, the importance of EUS-centered centers is increasing. In this study, we aimed to reveal the experience of EUS in our unit and to review the EUS operations carried out in our center between September 2011 and September 2016 retrospectively. Approval of the ethics committee for the study is taken from Gazi University Ethics Committee in February 2017. Retrospectively, 1462 persons performed EUS received the data. EUS was most commonly performed by pancreas-related diseases and complications developed in three patients. Two patients developed hypoxia and one patient developed perforation and no bleeding was observed. Although most of the pancreatic cysts are benign, increased risk of malignancy was found in LAP-associated kits (p <0,05). This study is a comprehensive retrospective study of coming out our center's experience with EUS. Based on this study, new studies can be done. By increasing the rate of EUS, unknowns about EUS can be reduced.
