Abstract:
Individuals who have the skills of 21st century and provide the needs of today should cultivate knowledge and should have the skill of thinking interdisciplinary. This necessity caused the born of a new education system and STEM model, first letters of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in English, came into existence in America. STEM education includes the integration of science, technology, engineering and maths. In this research; academic success, sustainability and the attitude to science also students ideas about the process of lesson that teached with STEM based activities are observed using activities which based on STEM. The research processes which are quantities and qualitative, are both used during this research with partially-experimental design that is includes begin test-end test control groups. Working group of this research is consist of 6th grades of students which are totally 37 student that 19 student of experimental group and 18 student in the control group, that in the spring term of 2017-2018, in the city of Ankara, on a school which affiliated Ministry of Education. In the research, test of matter and heat academic success, test of students attitude, test of creating relation with words and semi structured interview forms are used as a tool of gathering data. Data’s are gathered before, after and 3 weeks after the practice. In the quantity data analysis package program of SPSS 20, and for the qualitative data’s content analysis is used. The result of research is that the activities which based on STEM are not effective on academic success, sustainability and the attitude to science activities but students students had positive opinion about the STEM based science course process.
