Abstract:

PLAYING OUT BY HEART (M.Sc. Thesis) Gülseven KAN İZİ INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECNOLOGY January 1999 ABSTRACT This research was done to emphasize the importance and necessity of playing out by heart that is one of the important stages in piano education.Therefore it was researched that how often the necessary methods and technics have been being followed in memorising a music piece. First, an interview, prepared for this subject is applied to 30 students of piano and thir views about memorising were taken.Thus, the methods which are used in memorising a music piece are determind.The easiest and the most difficult forms and periods for memorising were examined.The attained findings have realised that most of the students are agreement in the view of the necessity of playing by heart, but they face to difficulties because of lack of education and not following the basis of memorising technics. On the basis of all these results it is suggested that students should be gained sufficient education and skill about memorising.Thus playing out by heart which is an important stage in piano education can be more true and more enduring.
