THE COMPETENCY LEVELS OF TEACHERS APPOİNTED AS CLASSROOM TEACHERS WHO GRADUATED DİFFERENT FACULTY AND DİFFERENT DEPARTMENTS İN MUSİC LESSON (Erzurum Oltu İlçesi Örneği)

Abstract:

Art classes are very important for the development of a child at primary school age. Particularly, it is known that music education and the primary school teachers' who give this education role is important. In the study, primary school teachers' opinions about their competence in music lesson were asked. This study is a descriptive study aiming to determine the present contition in this area. A questionnaire were administired to newly appointed teachers as primary teachers who graduated different faculty and different departments to collect the data. In the first part of the questionnaire, there are 14 questions about classroom teachers' personality features. In the second part, there are 19 questions about the teachers' song teaching activities. In the third part, there are 21 questions about the teachers' knowledge about general music. The sample was consisted of 71 classroom teachers, who were newly appointed as primary teachers who graduated different faculty and different departments. In the study, statisctical significance level was (P) .05. The analyses were made through SPSS. The results of the study show that, the majority of the subjects thinks that it is more efficient that music lesson should be cunducted by a music teacher. Also, according to the results, it is determined that among the teachers with 6-20 year teaching experience, only one teacher obtaoned in sercice training in music education. It v is also determined that although according to MEB program one song must be taught for each unit, the teachers' song repertoire was limited to not more than 20 songs. According to the results, it is determined that the subjects have very limited knowledge in general music. This study can be considered important in that it accentuates the necessary for the primary school teachers to get in sercice training in music education to make more efficient work. It is also suggested that the importance of music at primary schools should be realized more and the students should be encouraged to participate in in-out class activities.
