Abstract:

The main aim of the study with the title of the effect of teaching method on student achievement depending on museum based cooperation at the course of visual arts was to put forward the results to be obtained after benefitting as a method from museums exhibiting concrete art and culture works in the course of visual arts depending on cooperation, different from the course activities carried out through the method teacher uses in this course at primary school 6th grade, and to come up with proposals to be developed accordingly. In addition, this study is of importance in terms of the fact that it gives how to benefit from museums depending on the cooperation in the course of visual arts of the 6th grade and that it presents sample unite and course plans, and also samples of activities depending on cooperation and sample museum guidebook. The study was carried out in Ankara Hayri Erişen Primary School in the academic year of 2010-2011 at fall term. The sampling group of the study consisted of the students in 6 classes. These two classes had 61 students. Which one to become test group and which one to become control group was determined through drawing and it was decided that 6/D class would be test group and the other one to be the control group. The achievement test used in the study was developed by the researcher. While developing the achievement test, the dispersion in the acquisitions during the process of formation of visual arts course was paid attention and at least one question was answered concerning each acquisition. The participants were applied achievement test and their opinion was taken, then pre-test and student views before test process were registered. After the process, a post test was carried out. The views of the test and control groups were taken in line with the questions prepared, themes and sub-themes were created and tabulated and then interpreted. The measurements obtained for both test and control groups within the study were collected independently and the equality of the variances regarding the measurements of both groups was analyzed through Levene F test. At the end of the research, a significant difference was found between the test group where cooperation based museum education was applied and the control group where teacher based education was used in favour of test group in terms of achievement and student views. In addition, it was found that the students at the test group had more efficient learning at cooperation based museum education. Such a result is apparent with the different of pre and post test results. Depending on the findings obtained in the research, some recommendations were developed to be used in teaching process in order that cooperation based museum education could be supported benefitting from the related literature, in particular through effective learning different from the method teacher used.
