Research works, which are conducted due to not only limited reserves of fossil fuels, but also the need to reduce the environmental pollution arising from combustion of these resources, are focused especially on transportation sector. The environmental and thermal pollution stands for more air pollution and intense consumption of energy for the cities which cover only 1% of the world's surface. Within this scope, the vehicles which exhaust more ecological and economical alternative fuels are designed. While the electric and hybrid cars are pioneering these types of vehicles, various research works are being carried out in this field. In this study, preexisting condition of the reserves of fossil fuels and the damage stemming from consumption of these resources to the environment and the atmosphere are explained and the need for the electric and hybrid cars is presented with statistical data. The current situation of automobile industry and economic and ecologic gains which electric and hybrid cars will probably provide in vii 2015, 2020, and 2030 are analyzed by using some predictions. Fuel consumption rates, operational costs, emission levels and in case of charge the impacts on the electric supply systems of Renault Fluence Z.E., the first electric car produced in Turkey and hybrid Toyoto Pirius are calculated in comparison with gasoline, diesel, LPG cars and the results obtained are revealed by graphics. According to these results, electric cars are the most economical after 20 000 km of annual usage.
