Abstract:

Generally, the selection of plant location is a choosing of an area for establishing facility according to the certain criteria. Decisions on site selection are important and strategical. Selecting the plant location can be defined as an establishment of a new production facility, enlarging existing production plant and rebuilding a facility which is no longer economical due to new conditions. In this study, a new Glass fiber Reinforced Polyester (GRP) pipes production plant will be installed to meet the requirements of Turkish and overseas market demands. In this research, firstly literature review was done and two different types of criteria were determined, the criteria which are used in ordinary site selection problems and special criteria for selection of the GRP plant site. Subsequently, mentioned criteria were combined with new ones after consulting with experts in GRP pipe sector and State Hydraulic Works (SHW) agency, who are working in this field. The importance of the criteria has been obtained by expert opinions. In accordance with the mentioned criteria, alternative places for site selection were determined with Geographical Information System (GIS) and then alternative places were sorted by using Fuzzy VIKOR method.
