Abstract:

In this study, copyrolysis of Turkish Kutahya-Seyitomer oil shale and plastic wastes (high density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropilen (PP) and polystyrene (PS)) carried out. Pyrolysis experiments were performed in various ratios of oil shale and plastic waste (plastic waste content of the mixture in % 25, %5 0 and % 75(w/w)) and in the temperature range of 530 °C to 550°C. The yields of liquid and solid for each mixture are calculated. The co-pyrolysis results are compared with the calculated values from pyrolysis results of each component. The study is aimed to find out possible synergistic effects on the yields of liquid product and to investigate the use ability as fuel or/and feedstock. The highest liquid efficiency obtained for PS was %87,3, which was a result of pyrolysis of plastic waste and oil shale alone. The highest liquid efficiency obtained for mixtures was % 63 as a result of pyrolysis of weightly mixture of % 75 PS - % 25 oil shale and pyrolysis liquid of this mixture was analyzed to get detailed information as doing distillation, density, viscosity, pH, flash point, pour point, heating value, sulfur and nitrogen amount, FTIR analyses. Pyrolysis liquid was seen to defining as medium and sweet crude oil.
