Abstract:The importance of OSAS is better understood day by day. It is a sendrom that results in lots of problems of cardiovascular and neurocognitive systems. The prevalance of OSAS changes by age and gender but it is estimated to be between 1-5 % in the whole population. For preventive medicine it is one of the most important issues to make early diagnosis of this syndrome to overcome any possible complications. The gold standart diagnosis modality of OSAS is to make polisomnography in the sleep labarotory. However, there are lots of reasons requiring a need of alternative diagnosis modality in stead of poysomnography for OSAS diagnosis such as, inadeqate sleep labarotory numbers, cost, the need of educated personel. So we have made a study to evaluate the reliability and efficiency of Watch PAT® which is one of the ambulatory instruments that is included in the third category of ASDA and recommended in the literature previously. In our study we have performed sleep test to 30 patients with the pre-diagnosis of OSAS with polysomnography and Watch PAT® instruments simultaneously. After analysing the results we have determined that the results of Watch PAT® was compatible with polysomnography. Finally we have came up with the judgement that Watch PAT® instrument which is included in the third category of ASDA for OSAS diagnosis could be utilized as an alternative diagnosis modality in stead of polysomnografy.
