Abstract:The purpose of this expermental study is to compare the success of test group taught with the active learning, with the control group students' success taught with the traditioanal teaching methods at teaching of Sets in 6th grade Mathematics. Experimental research model that includes pretest and posttest was conducted with a control group and an experiment group. This research was applied in a school in Düzce in the first term of 20072008 education and instructiıon year. 20 students were in experiment group and 20 students were in control group. So in total 40 students joined the study. The achievement test of which reliablity had been calculated beforehand and that had been build up by researcher was applied to the experiment and control group students. Then when the lessons were given with the active learning methods in the experiment group, the lessons were given in traditional method in the control group. At the end of the instruction, the achievement test prepared to both of the groups was applied as the posttest. Arithmetic mean, standart deviation and t-test were used in the analyses of the data. According to the research results; it was clear that the group's academic success educated with the active learning methods increased more than the group's success educated with the traditional instruction methods.
