Abstract:

The aim of this study is a comparative examination of Turkish and English 9th level high school geography curriculums. In this study, Turkish and English high school geography curriculums have been compared and examined. In order to get deeper information a survey has been conducted. The survey has been applied to 40 teachers from Turkey and 18 geography teachers from England. 5 options have been presented to the participants. Here are some results which have been gathered from Turkish and English geography curriculums: It has been found that in both countries curriculum aims met social expectations. In terms of comprehensibility of geography curriculums, participants in both countries said tat curriculum is rarely comprehensible. And the data shows that in both countries curriculums are mostly consistent. Concerning to appropriateness of geography curriculums in both countries, participants cited that it is mostly appropriate to the students' levels. The people participated in the workshop in both countries came to conclusion that the program was written in a partially understandable language. The workshop group in both countries agreed that the program was consistent in a large magnitude. The same outcome was also valid for the program aim, weather it was appropriate to the level of the students. The program in Turkey made the students to gain a partially positive approach for geography lesson, while in England in majority it was I agree in large scale. In Turkey the thought that the program will have benefit to solve the daily problems facing the students was partially accomplished. While in England the participation came out to be in a large magnitude. Consequently, in both countries the knowledge and the skill gained from the geography lesson by the students helped them to partially solve the daily faced problems.
