Abstract:

In this study, heat transfer performances and friction factors of four different fin configurations, namely plate fin, wavy plate fin, solid profile fin which are made of aluminum and located in a channel, and the channel without fin, for the Reynolds number in the range of 4500-7000 are investigated experimentally. The fins are designed based on the cooling applications of military electronics systems. For this purpose, an experimental setup is installed. Air is used as the fluid. Air flow is forced into the channel by the help a fan. Lots of empirical correlations are investigated in the literature and the most appopriate correlations are selected to the characteristics of the experimental setup. The optained experimental data are compared with Nusselt number, friction factor correlations and empirical correlations in the literature. It is observed that the experimental data are in compliance with the empirical correlations.
