Abstract:

The complex structure that emerges from the relationship between the individual, society, and environment can be understood through lands as a close bond between past, present, and future. The cultural landscape, which plays a vital role in transferring the societies' unique lives and values from generation to generation, includes all tangible and intangible elements. Although cultural landscape is a concept recently brought to the agenda in the cultural heritage conservation literature, it encompasses abstract and concrete social values. It stands out as a crucial component of cultural and social sustainability. Boğatepe Village in Kars Province, which is the subject of the study, is one of the essential cultural landscape areas that was settled after the 1877-1878 Ottoman-Russian War and hosted many communities of different races, especially Malakans of Russian origin. Malakans have contributed to the emergence of a rural texture that has different qualities from other settlements in the region with their cultural identities, lifestyles, traditions, and the physical environment they have created in Boğatepe Village. In Boğatepe Village, which was one of the first settlements after the migration of Malakans to Anatolia, it is possible to observe the effects of daily life, architecture, economic and social elements that emerged as a result of the interaction of natural and cultural factors, both in the village and in Kars. This study aims to examine Kars Boğatepe Village within the concept of cultural landscape. As a result, the study reveals the cultural landscape values of Boğatepe Village, shaped by daily life practices and traditions, with their tangible and intangible components.
