Abstract:

In this thesis, it is aimed to evaluate the effect of the changes in protective clinical attire and isolated dental environment on pediatric patients during the COVID-19 pandemic period with the Child Drawing: Hospital Scale (CD:H) and to reveal the correlation between a pediatric dentist and a child psychiatrist who made this evaluation. A total of 120 children aged 5-7 years with no previous dental experience who presented to the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic were included in the study. Behaviors and attitudes of the children before the examination were measured with the "Frankl Behavior Rating Scale". Subsequently, the children were randomly divided into two groups. The pandemic group was examined in an isolated dental office with white overalls, FFP3 mask and visor; the conventional group, the patients were examined in a standard uniform, white coat, surgical mask, and normal dental office. After the examination, pediatric patients were asked to draw a picture, and their dental anxiety levels were evaluated using the CD:H. The drawings made in the second part of the study were evaluated independently by a pediatric dentist (RD) who had an international training certificate on 'picture analysis in children' and a child psychiatrist (BS). It was observed that the change in dental office and clinical dental attire during the pandemic period did not increase the anxiety levels of children. It was concluded that the drawing activity using the CD:H can be used safely in the field of pediatric dentistry for the assessment of dental anxiety in children. Also the use and the evaluation of this method in their clinics will enrich the field of pediatric dentistry when pediatric dentists become competent with the training certification programs on "The analysis of children’s drawings".
