Abstract:Lung cancer is one of the leading cause of cancer related deaths in both genders whole over the world. At the present times pathways and genes play role in lung cancer development are being researched. AKT/mTOR is thought to be efficacious in development of many cancers. It controls the expression of many genes which play important role in cell proliferation, metastasis, resistance to apoptosis and angiogenesis. Futhermore, the increase of CCND1 expression was shown in several cancer types. Aim of this study is to search the expression profile of AKT, mTOR and CCND1 genes which is thought to play role in non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) development. Gazi University Medical School ethics committee approval was taken for this study. 44 NSCLC patients who didn?t get adjuvant therapy were included. From the resection materials (lobectomy or pneumonectomy) tissue samples from tumor and adjacent normal lung tissue were taken immediately in the theatre room.Total cellular RNA was isolated from tissue samples. The mRNA expression levels of AKT, mTOR and CCND1 genes were measured by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Our findings revealed statistically significant increase of mTOR expressions on mRNA levels (p<0.05). Although AKT and CCND1 expression slightly increased in malign tissues, these changes in expression were not significant.
