Abstract:

This is a descriptive study, technically and stylistically analysing the 12 etudes in Sebastian Lee's Op.113 Etude Book which is commonly used at cello courses taught at the Faculties of Education Divisions of Music Teaching in Turkey. In the research, among the qualitative research methods, content analysis model is used. With this study, it is aimed to gain individuals, who operate in this field, an analytical perspective and enable them to make their practice more productive with a rationalist approach. In the research, with its technical features, contributions of the etude to the player in terms of development are investigated. As a result of the analysis, it is found that the etudes contribute to the development of vibrato, flogele shift, open position, half position, position shifts, arpeggio playing, double-sound playing, chord playing, fingering, articulation, orniments and trill, chromatic shifts and preparing the sound patterns in the left hand; and equal bow use, different-speeded bow use, practicing different types of ligature,legato, staccato and pizzicato playing, nuance-based bow use, stressed playing, attack bow use, marcato bow use, whole bow use and different consecutive bow uses in the right hand
