In this study, automatic control of the gains of the erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) operating in the C band region was achieved and minimum gain emission values were obtained. For this purpose, an EDFA operating in the C band region has been designed, and the electronic control circuit that will control this EDFA and software to control it over the computer have been realized. Optical gain spectra of EDFA have a nonlinear structure in the C band region. Therefore, the total gain values obtained in wavelengths will differ when using the optical amplifier chain, i.e. when successive amplification are made. As a result, some wavelengths will weaken before reaching the receiving side. In EDFAs, the dynamic gain value is achieved by controlling the power of the pump laser. The control of the pump lasers takes place depending on two parameters consisting of current and temperature. One of the most intensively studied topics that is emphasized in this thesis is the control of these lasers. In the experimental studies, computer software has been implemented to control the automatic gain system consisting of tunable laser source, optical spectrum analyzer and pump laser control devices integratedly
