Abstract:Communication on High Frequency (HF) channel as a type of Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) communication is widely used, especially in military area. By nature, since HF communication provides communication between long range regions, channel shows multipath propagation feature, so this situation can cause frequency selective fading effect. With Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), frequency selective fading effect of channel is reduced, so that the transmitted signal is subjected to flat fading effect. Thanks to Forward Error Correction (FEC) algorithms, Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) can be improved for signal which is subjected to flat fading effect. In the scope of this thesis, performance analysis of concatenated Bose Chaudhuri Hocquenghem (BCH) and convolutional coded OFDM system under multipath frequency selective fading channel were investigated. Firstly, Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of OFDM system under varying SNR was investigated under multipath frequency selective fading channel, then BER performance of only BCH coded and only convolutional coded OFDM system was investigated under same channel by using computer simulations. Finally, performance analysis of proposed concatenated BCH and convolutional coded OFDM system was investigated, in this case it can be seen that lower SNR values can be achieved for desired BER in contrast with only BCH coded and only convolutional coded OFDM system.
