Abstract:

Rapid consumption of limited natural resources and the possibility of facing an irreversible nature destruction amplify importance of sustainability concept and energy efficiency under this notion. According to this view, a new vision for construction of cities is required. New residential areas cannot anymore be the places of the recklessly consumed natural resources but should be designed as livable areas compatible to environment, preserving and improving natural resources while using them. In recent years a nationwide urbanization and housing development period has begun in Turkey and by the new legal regulations Housing Development Administration of Turkey (TOKİ) has been charged and warranted extensively for this process. At this point to construct a sustainable future and sustainable residential areas, and to optimize energy demand, and energy efficiency strategies in housing development period is essential. In this study, it is aimed to analyze housing development projects and implementations of TOKİ in terms of energy efficiency, and to develop strategies to adapt energy efficiency methods to housing development projects thought the results of the survey.
