Abstract:

The study was conducted in Gazi University Hospital, Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine, İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine and Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine Stomatherapy Units. The nurses who are working in these units (8 nurses) and the patiens with peristomal skin lesions who are taking care in these units (100 patients) attended the study. The datas of the study were collected with, Peristomal Skin Lesions Assessment Tool , SACS Instrument s Registration Form , Descriptive Characteristics of Patients Form , Descriptive Characteristics of Nurses Form and The Viewes of Nurses on The Peristomal Skin Lesions Assessment Tool Recording Form . In the study, fifty five percent of the patient were male, 52% were between the ages of 40-64 and 50% were primary school graduates and below. In %79 of the patient surgery was planned and in 59% stoma created due to colorectal cancers. In 28% of the patients stoma site was marked and the marking is done by a stomal therapy nurse. Sixty seven percent of the patient has ileostomy and the stomas were temporarily created. The average length of life of patients with a stoma was 12.8 months and ranged between 1 day to 12 years. SACS Instrument s content validitiy indeks is 1 and reliability study was carried out by an independent interobsever study. The determined SACS Instrument's confidence interval was between 0.80- 0.99. The results of the study shows; SACS Instrument s Turkish version is a valid and a reliable tool, the nurses prefer to use the SACS Instrument in their clinics.
