Abstract:Today, casting polyamide, which is of great industrial importance and used in many fields instead of metals, is one of the most widely used engineering plastics. The mechanical properties of engineering plastics are quite good, but some properties need to be better depending on the intended use. These improvements are made by adding various additives during the production of cast polyamide. In this study, during the production of cast polyamide from Ɛ-caprolactam under nitrogen atmosphere by free casting process in the pilot scale reactor, various ratios of graphite were added. And the effect of graphite ratio on the gelation and solidification duration and the mechanical properties such as hardness, tensile strength, elongation, modulus of elasticity, impact and wear resistance was determined. It is determined that as the graphite ratio increased, the gelation and solidification durations were increased and the graphite ratio did not have any significant effect on the hardness of the composite. It was also determined that impact strength, yield and tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, elongation at yield and at break were decreased with increasing graphite ratio. While an increase in wear resistance were observed with up to 3 % graphite ratio, in over 3% graphite ratio any change was not seen in wear resistance.
