Abstract:In todays world, sectors are obliged to increase their competitiveness in order to make a difference and gain advantage. Gaining such advantage requires effective management of intellectual assets as well as tangible assets. Various methods have been applied in studies in the literature aimed at measuring and evaluating intellectual capital and the components thereof. This thesis proposes a model for the identification and evaluation of intangible assets, i.e. intellectual capital, in sectors within the national industry. The objective of the proposed model in question is to determine the factors to be employed for evaluating intellectual capital on sector basis; examine the relations amongst these factors, and to ascertain the level at which these factors exist in the sectors under examination. In line with this objective, the model has been structured with the fuzzy analytic network process (FANP), which is a multi criteria decision making method, due to the fact that the linguistic variables are used in the evaluation and interactions exist among factors. Intellectual capital and the components thereof have been assessed in five sectors determined on the basis of factor weights and assessment scale derived from FANP
