Abstract:As all developed and developing countries in the world, one of the main issues that Turkey has to give priority to for its continuous development is energy. Our country is far away from the position in which its own domestic energy production meets all of its energy requirements. Turkey is a country which consumes much more energy than its own energy production. Turkey meets its primary energy requirement mostly from imported fossil based fuels as petrol, fuel oil and coal. This causes two disadvantages for Turkey. First one is billions of dollars being spent for energy importation every year, the other one is irreversible effects of burning these fossil fuels to our environment, in other words, to our world. In this study, the usability of Turkey's renewable energy sources was examined; its importance and contributions in Turkey's energy strategy were determined.
