Abstract:

In this study, it is aimed to make a sample design study as well as literature research on the concept of universal design. For this design, the city bus stops where the user profile is very wide were chosen. In the first part of the thesis, the concept of universal design is explained, information is given about its history and its principles are explained with examples. Accessibility data for the bus stops to be designed are shared. The reports and guides prepared from domestic and foreign sources were examined and the data required to be applied to the design were compiled. In the light of this information, product design phase has been started. Design thinking steps were followed in the design process. In the empathy section, user behaviors were observed and the needs of the users with different qualifications and characteristics were tried to be understood. In the definition section, problem definition has been made based on user needs. The first ideas that appeared in the face of problems in the idea stage were arranged with mind mapping. Subsequently, ideas were poured into sketches, product alternatives were created and developed and finalized. Designed stall; It distinguishes it from others because it provides solutions that can be used by everyone by combining their needs without separating or stigmatizing users. Although it seems impossible to provide all the elements of universal design or to meet the needs of each user, it can be improved according to the positive or negative criticism from the users.
