Abstract:

In this study, bainitic microstructure was obtained by heat treatment on R260 rail steel, which is generally used in railways. These steels are considered to be more advantageous than current rail steels, and are obtained by heat treatment. The mechanical and micro structures of the samples obtained by this technique were investigated and compared with each other. Flash-butt welding parameters were kept constant during the experiment. In the light of test results, welding performances of bainitic steels were analyzed and compared with R260 steels. It is observed within the study that the bainit structure that was obtained by heat treatment was partially transformed on the welding area, however, it remained still on base metal. Moreover, it is also observed that the hardness level and tensile strength on the welding zone were increased.
