Abstract:Since the natural variables such as solar irradiation and wind speed are uncontrolled variables, the correlation between the energy generated by renewable energy sources and energy demand cannot be provided every time. Therefore, energy storage systems are used to provide more efficient renewable energy systems. In these systems, energy control systems are used to control battery and power. In addition, especially in wind turbines, fast varying wind speed causes wind power fluctuations which threaten the power system stability at high power levels. Energy storage systems are also used in these systems to mitigate the power fluctuations and sustain the power systems stability. Again a controller is required which controls power of the energy storage system to mitigate the power fluctuations. In this study, a hybrid energy control algorithm is proposed which can perform as energy control system and power fluctuation mitigation system. The proposed controller is tested with wind turbine and solar system modelled in MATLAB/Simulink. Simulation results show that proposed energy control system mitigates power fluctuations.
