Abstract:
In this research the subject of Balkan Wars (1912-1913) take place in history textbooks used for history education in the schools, giving education on the high school level, of Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece and Albania was examined. How were the Balkan Wars taken in hand in the history textbooks of Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece and Albania? How similarities or differences do Balkan Wars have in terms of manner of telling between Turkey and Balkan countries? Which position has the history education reached in Turkey and Balkans? In this research, finding answers for these questions has been aimed and the study has been done accordingly. Within the coverage of the research, chapters of the Balkan Wars subject in seven history textbooks were taught between the years 1930 and 2009, and also are taught at present in Turkey and in Balkan countries were investigated. By making translation of the related chapters of the textbooks, written in Balkan languages, into Turkish, examination of the subject was done in detail. As a result of this research, it was determined that the subject of Balkan Wars has wider coverage in educational curriculum in Balkan countries in comparison to Turkey but the several examples of misuses of history take place in these curriculums on behalf of historical reality and the subject of Balkan Wars has not been considered important adequately. It is aimed that the findings of this research and solution proposals deducted from these findings will be used for writing new textbooks. Besides, it is also aimed that to fill the important gap in the literature with this study.
