Abstract:
The general purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of the Direct Instruction Model in teaching and maintaining geometric objects to students with low vision. The subjects of the research are 2 male students with low vision, aged 10 and 12, who continue their education in different public primary schools. As the research model, Multiple probe design across behaviors with probe trial, which is one of the single-subject research models, was used. During the data collection process, effectiveness, reliability and social validity data were collected. Efficacy data consisted of baseline, probe, generalization and monitoring sessions. In order to determine the generalizability of the research, pre-test and post-test data were collected. All the data obtained were recorded with a camera throughout the process and recorded in the data collection recording forms. All the data obtained in the research were presented through graphical analysis (visual analysis). In the monitoring data, it was examined whether the subjects continued the concepts they learned on the seventh, fourteenth and twenty-first days after the end of the instruction. In the generalization data, the generalizability of the teachings to different materials/situations was examined. At the same time, social validity data were collected to determine the views of the participants and parents about the teaching process. In line with the results obtained from the research, it was concluded that the Direct Instruction Model was effective in teaching and maintaining geometric objects to students with low vision. After the teaching, it was observed that the students were able to generalize their acquired skills to different materials/situations. At the same time, the permanence of teaching continued on the seventh, fourteenth and twenty-first days. In the social validity data
obtained, it was concluded that the participants and the parents were also satisfied with the teaching process.
