Abstract:

The effect of vitamine C on collagen synthesis is known hy the cell culture and biochemical research. During the collagen synthesis, ascorbic acid provides the hydroxylation of prolin and lyzin therefore they convert into hydroxylyzine and hydroxyprolin. Prolin and lyzine residues of the recently synthesized collagen are need to be hydroxylated for the formation of helical structure of collagen. The aim of this study is to examine the effect on the collagen fibril layer of rat cornea, trachea, skin and suprarenal gland by time-dependent high dose vitamin C treatment. For this purpose, rats were given 150 mg/every other day for 3, 10 and 21 days while the control groups were given the same dose of serum physiologic. The organs of the rats were processed by the ordinary light microscopy and then stained with hematoxlin-cosin. Morphometric analysis of the stratum reticulare of skin, stroma of cornea, pericondrium of the trachea and capsule of the suprarenal gland was made in control group and study group rats in which vitamine C application was made 3. 10 and 21 days. Statistical analysis of the data was made using Kruskal-Wallis and Wann-Whitney tests. There was a significant difference between control and vitamine C groups in all application periods.
