Abstract:
The research was carried out on the purpose of examination of prospective teachers’ beliefs about environment and levels of achievement. The study is a survey type descriptive research. Research contains quantitative data supported by qualitative data. Research study group consists of 186 prospective teachers: 3rd and 4th grades from Department of Science Education, 3rd and 4th grades from Department of Biology Education and graduates from Faculty of Science who attended pedagogical formation training. In the 2017-2018 spring period, the environmental knowledge test and environmental belief scale were applied together to the group who constitute the study group and interviews were held with prospective teachers. The obtained data were analyzed by statistical programs and the findings reached were interpreted. Accordingly, the knowledge level of prospective teachers about the environment was found to be sufficient when the highest score that could be obtained from the test was taken into consideration. It was seen that the answers of the prospective teachers in the interview forum were also in agreement with the achievement
test. However, prospective teachers’ beliefs about environment seem quite insufficient when the possible highest score from the test was taken into consideration.
