Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the opportunities of Building Information Modeling and its parametric infrastructure at the conceptual design stage. It is considered as an extension of other academic studies on Building Information Modelling, but its focus is on the conceptual design phase. The feasibility and application of the use at this stage are discussed. In this context, the acceptance and usage rates of Building Information Modeling in the world and in Turkey were examined, and design approaches made with traditional design methods and programs with parametric infrastructure were compared. The hierarchical structure of tools, platforms and environments in Building Information Modeling system has been revealed. Platforms used in this context, generative design tools, simultaneous visualization tools were introduced and information about the definition, history and terms of Building Information Modeling was given. Research has been done on conceptual design principles and starting the project. In the light of all this information, opportunities have been experienced on a project consisting of a parametric module and grid structure from part to whole, in other words from building scale to city scale. As a result of the findings, the production process with the help of object-based, parametric data allows to produce information and designs in a more consistent, practical, free and controlled manner that can offer different alternatives in practice.
