Abstract:

In the study, Nusret Köymen's understanding of education in the Republican period was analyzed comparatively in terms of social, cultural, political and economic aspects. The data of this research, which is based on literature review and document review, were obtained by using qualitative data analysis method within the framework of Köymen's work of art. As a result of the research, "Let's Save Democracy is Public Education that Will Save Democracy", "Towards Great Brightness", "Principles of Village and City or Statism in Organization of Society", "Remedy in Mexico", "Remedies for Upgrading the Turkish Village" etc. work of arts have drawn attention to the importance of concepts such as “democracy, public education, peasantry, modernization and development” expressed by Köymen in the history of Turkish education, especially in the formation of the Republican education thought. Atatürk has an important place in the formation of Köymen's educational thought as a whole. In the research, it is emphasized that while establishing the education idea of Köymen, especially Atatürk, he benefited from important concepts such as “democracy and public education”, which form the basis of Atatürk's mindset, and that he directs education thought in this context
