ii ESTIMATION OP POPULATION SIZE (M.Sc. Thesis) UğurALBAYRAM GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY JANUARY 1997 ABSTRACT In the first chapter of this study, several techniques are given for estimating population size. These are also included population size about problems of time and volume. In the second chapter, the model (Mt) that has been applied to the epidemiological data, offered by Wittes for estimating population size is defined. As a alternative to the Wittes's model, in a generalized standart capture-recapture model (GMt) population size estimator and variance estimator are presented. The logical process of the GMt is attained to the number of unrecorded names from recorded names on list sources. In addition, two real data sets are used to compare the GMt model with the Mt model. In the third chapter, the GMt model's estimator is used to estimate the total number of staff in the State Institute of Statistics.
