Abstract:

Benchmarking and measuring the performance of airport companies which have big company cost and set by big capital are important for these companies to maintain their activities effectively. In this study, performance of Turkish Airports is evaluated by using Malmquist productivity index and multi-period two stage Data Envelopment Analysis. The efficient airports are derived by using the data of years 2009-2013 from State Airports Authority Directorate General (DHMI) annual statistics. Malmquist index is an efficiency measurement which is able to explain variation of efficiency and the components of this variation in a certain period of time. Multi-period two-stage data envelopment analysis (DEA) models which are different from the Malmquist index measure the overall performance of a production system composed of two stages in a specified period of time. The first stage inputs of this study number of employees, operating expense, number of runways, terminal area, parking capacity, sum of all vehicles and number of check-in counters, the output of first stage is number of aircraft movements. While the second stage input is number of aircraft movements, the second stage outputs are number of passengers, cargo volume and operating revenue.
