Abstract:Switched reluctance motors (SRMs) are simple electrical machines which have application areas increasingly growing because of their cheapness and easy usage. Both power electronic components and microcontrollers have been positively affected from developments of semiconductor technologies in recent years. As a result of improvement of power electronics and computer technology, there have been increased attentions to control the SRMs. In this study, an economic driver was designed to drive a three phase SRM with 12/8 poles. In driving circuit, MOSFET's were used for switching and low cost PIC16F877 microcontroller was used to control driver. Open loop speed control of the SRM was achieved with and without load.
