Abstract:The subject of the study is Saraç Sinan Masjid and Tomb, which was built in the period of Anatolian Seljuk State and located in Ankara Altındağ. The reason for the determination of this building as the thesis subject is, the use of the expression madrasah in relation to the building; in the foundation registration of the building and in the historical registry books which the name passes through. It is aimed to make a detailed study on the building, considering that; there is no madrasah building that survived today in Ankara and that the plan of this building may be surviving part of a building complex. With this thesis; more than 700 years of history of this monumental building which is also a cultural heritage has been researched as much as possible, its close environmental analysis has been made, the current overall status of building has been identified by; preparing the measured drawings and documentation of present situation and the building has been assessed by analises. Research on main function of the building was carried out with those referances; using of the expression madrasah in the foundation registration of the building, similarity to the madrasah by functional and physically and being included in the existing plan scheme that, the mascid, iwan and tomb units; in this context a comprehensive comparative study has been carried out and the type of main function of the building has been determined. The restoration and excavation work of the building has been examined in detail. Possible development direction analyzes were prepared by; considering the comprehensive comparative study and foreseening that the current plan of Saraç Sinan Masjid and Tomb could be a surviving part of a madrasah; and as a result the restitution suggestion has been made on the most probable possibility. Then, the restoration has been criticized within the framework of international statutes and agreements; the interventions envisaged to be made on identified possibility have been expressed and suggestion for restoration has been made. Thus, the importance of this cultural heritage has been emphasized, the restoration has been criticized, preservation suggestions has been made, and it was provided that this cultural heritage has been transferred to the future generations more healthily.
