Abstract:

Glasgow Hearing Aid Benefit Profile (GHABP) is a scale in the form of a survey. GHABP involves disability before intervention, use of hearing aid device, benefits reported as regards hearing aid device and assessments about satisfaction. The objective of this study is to carry out a survey of validity and reliability for Turkey by adapting GHABP to our language in order to objectively assess the benefits that people with hearing disability have acquired from hearing aid devices. Firstly, the scale was adapted to Turkish. The compatibility of the adapted form and its equivalence to original form were approved by the experts. In the second stage, data concerning validity and reliability of the test were collected. Reliability analysis of the answers given by 261 people who were involved in the study was conducted. In the explanatory factor analysis that was conducted to determine the structure reliability of GHABP, three factors in which the articles measuring the same and associated structures were categorized under the same factor were obtained for the standard case. The articles under these factors were examined and as expected, it was seen that associated articles were categorized under the same factor. Satisfaction levels as regards the hearing aid device were accepted as independent variable and derived scale points were accepted as dependent variable. Whether the derived benefits varied according to satisfaction level or not was examined and as expected, points obtained from the scale showed a significant difference compared with satisfaction levels. Similarly, results of satisfaction levels varied according to hearing loss level and these findings showed that measuring device made a valid and sensitive measurement. In addition, Cronbach alpha coefficient, which is interpreted as self-consistence, was calculated and for each of the three factors, it was found above the admissible level. In conclusion, it has been found that GHABP has provided valid and reliable results in determining the satisfaction levels of hearing aid device users that vary in terms of hearing loss levels.
