Abstract:The purpose of this study is to identify the critical issues of design of instructional materials developed for multitouch screen regarding to examine the experiences and views of students and teachers. A formative research framework with qualitative approach applied for the research. Participants are a class of 6th grade level students and five teachers from the Ankara ? Etimesgut area. The research was conducted in vivo naturalistic case procedure, a type of formative research. Teacher and student interviews, observation and thinking aloud during application are as data source. Data were collected via two paper based prototyping process and three times development process of applications. Data were collected from teachers during the two paper based prototypes and first application. In addition, data were collected from students during the first, second, and third applications. Data were collected both teacher and students in terms of defined codes as content, visual design, usage of multitouch screen and interaction via taking their opinions and watching their behavior during the applications. New prototype was prepared according to the analysis of participants? feedback and noted important points where participants are satisfaction or dissatisfaction. Iterative process was followed in this study and the outputs of applications were the input of next application. After the third application, the participants? satisfaction was ensured and developments of application were ended. In conclusion, the important issues to be considered in the design of instructional material developed for multitouch screens and used screens in classroom are listed under the three groups: application developers or instructional designers, teachers while using in classroom and researchers taking their agenda. Defined criteria are expected to guide for these people to prepare more suitable learning objects and to use them in classroom via multitouch screens.
