Abstract:The aim of this study is to determine the opinions of teachers germane to employment of elementary school Mathematics guide books, textbooks and workbooks and the opinions of students as to the use of and 4th grade Mathematics textbooks and workbooks. The study has been conducted with the participation of 519 class teachers working in Sincan and Etimesgut districts of Ankara province and 1.015 fourth grade students in the in the 2012-2013 school year. The research is based on screening model. In order to put forward the opinions of the teachers on the use of primary school math books a 27-article " Survey on Teachers' Opinions as to the Use of Mathematics Guide Books, Textbooks and Workbooks" with three sub-sections and a 22-article "Survey on Students' Opinions as to the Use of Mathematics Guide Books, Textbooks and Workbooks" with two sub-sections were prepared. In addition, teachers and parent interview forms were created to accomodate more in-depth information. Data obtained at the end of the application were analyzed through the SPSS 15 software package. Frequency, percentage, mathematical average, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis H test were used in data analysis. When the findings of the study are examined, it can be seen that in average 75% of the teachers use mathematics guide books, textbooks and workbooks frequently and during each and every time period; use of mathematics guide books does neither differ according to last level of education completed by teachers nor according to the the graduated program and level of grades teachers teach however a significant difference can be observed according to their seniority in the profession and the socio-economic level of the schools in which the teachers work; use of mathematics textbooks does not differ according to the graduated program and level of grades teachers teach however a significant difference can be observed according to their seniority in the profession and the socio-economic level of the schools in which the teachers work; and that there was not a significant difference respecting all independent variables in mathematics workbooks. It has been observed that in average 78% of students use their textbooks and use of mathematics textbook by students differ in a meaningful way according to the socio-economic level of the schools thereof and that there was no differentiation incident to the workbooks. It has been determined that the students use their textbooks mostly when following the topics and doing their homeworks and that they use their textbooks least when they are doing their performance and project works.
