Abstract:Objective: In this study, we aimed to investigate the clinical and functional results of the trapeziectomy + ligament reconstruction and tendon interposition surgery performed in the middle-aged age population of the thumb, which we have frequently seen in the CMC joint arthritis. Material and Method: During the routine follow-up period of the patients undergoing trapeziectomy + ligament reconstruction / tendon interposition surgery between the years 2011-2017, the records of the patients who were registered in our archives and were examined retrospectively were used as the data source of the study. The functional results of 27 hands, including 25 patients, were examined with objective and subjective methods. The operation hands of the patients were compared with the other hands. Then, the results obtained according to the follow-up period of the patients were compared. These parameters were analyzed by the Wilcoxon test, as the parameters compared between the operated hand and the counter hand did not show normal distribution. Mann-Whitney-u test was used for comparison analysis between the follow-up groups (<36 months and ≥36 months) of these parameters, which were found to be non-normal. Result: After the operation, it was seen that all patients complained of pain loss or decreased in a way that did not affect their living standards. When the hand was compared to the operated hand, the range of motion, thumb pinch values and grip strength of hand were found to be statistically significantly lower. Satisfactory results were obtained from the PRWE and Q-DASH functional scoring tests, and these tests showed statistically significantly better results, especially after 36 64 months. All patients had a statistically significant shortening of the thumb, but no clinically significant significance. Discussion: The most significant complaint in all patients is the loss of pain or the decrease in the effective rate, which shows that this operation is beneficial. The postoperative results are very close in functional terms compared to the opposite hand. Similar results are found in the literature in our study.
