Abstract:

This dissertation has been completed to depict how student's, history teacher's and historians' understanding of casuality have been formed in history and how they have familiarized similar principles of casuality within the frame of the subject of "Formation of Ottoman Empire". In this thesis, "descriptive research" has been used. Data has been obtained by using both qualitative and quantative methods.Limited universe used in this thesis is composed of 300 sampling students for quantative and qualitative methods. The same research has been carried out for teachers, academic historians, and students. At the end of the research the following results have been achieved: 1- In terms of forming a chain of causation for the students who are in both secondary and primary education, it has been concluded that age difference among the students have a significant role although gender does not have an important impact on students' choices. 2- Both the students and the teachers have similar understandings of casuality. Apart from these two groups, it has been observed that the other groups have formed particular casuality relations and they have not been influenced by eachother. There is a need of doing a more comprehensive qualitative research on this subject beacuse the real thoughts and casuality relations which lie beneath these ideas can be revealed.
