Abstract:In this study, one of the plays of J. P. Sartre, Huis Clos has been addressed, examined thoroughly and also commented visually. This study has been limited with a spiritual and plastic concept which was occurred by a transition of a literary language to a plastic language. As a philosopher and artist, Sartre's philosophy was taken under the scope of the thesis, according to his plays' schemas and also because of the fact that the relationship between the spiritual and artistic aspects of Secret Session and the text and the image support this study. The last section of this study which consisted of four sections has been composed of the applications which have been made by being derived from the text of Secret Session. It was benefitted from the play's text, especially from its content plane. The expression element in the content plane was taken into consideration more than the grammatical and formal features in the expression item of the text. It was derived from the contacts with the terms, its correlations such as contrast, and identity and also from the shown things which were referred to the meanings in the text. This meaning unity that is created by the aggregation of so many words, brighten in our mind as images. These images carry us to the various things, places and visual figures. The play's idea is based on the balance what we see in the center of human existence and how we are seen and also it treats that the existence which the human beings chose with free will, cannot be changed in front of someone. The most famous idiom mentioned in the text is the premise; Hell is others and it gives the main idea of the play. This statement gives the essence of this existentialist world-view which Sartre based on liberalizing by being released from the addiction to anyone; by questioning the nature of human's ego. Huis Clos describes the being together of three recently dead people and who had never seen each other before and lived in different geographies. When this threesome is searching the formula of the exclusion of the third one by entering into bilateral relations, actually they are sentenced to each other in this hell cell where they are put in forever. From now on, each one is hell for the other. The hell in the play describes with a hotel room metaphor. In the text, human's freedom volition is limited with the others and the others are both obstacle and necessary in order that the individual realizes its existence. The image comments are based on the metaphor Hell is others which gives the essence/idea of the text. These application studies which were made for the thesis have formed of 18 pieces oil on 200x100 cm canvas painting. Visual presentation of these canvases is conformed to the text's idea and they were placed 45 degree angle the way that two canvases cannot see the third one and that they continuously follow each other. The movement, which is eternalizing with a vicious cycle and which one's existence depends on the other in the play, has been given with the representative color and figures both in paintings and in arrangements of canvases. The formal language finds its existence with an expressing method in accordance with the associations of notions existence and freedom that are hidden in the text and the experiences of the researcher's paintings previously made.
