Abstract:
In this study, how the gender phenomenon was given in the most watched cartoons by children is investigated. The purpose of this study bring out judgments of the phenome of gender in the most watched cartoons. Fort his research, maximum diversity sampling were selected among purposeful sampling methods. According to maximum diversity sampling, schools were preferred in Gaziantep city center and rural areas. In 2018-2019 academic year, an interview, was provided 773 children in the kindergarten. As a result of the interview, 46 different cartoons were reached and most watched 5 episodes among most watched cartoons by children were investigated. The data was analyzed by using content and descriptive analysis. Prepared categories with reference to this were examined with “frequency analysis”. Document examination method was used as a tool data collection. As a result of the findings of this research, ıt has been observed that female character mostly used pink color and female character deal with childcare and housework, male character played more powerful, effective and active role, there is gender stereotype in the division of work at home and outside, according to emotion distribution, male charecters are happier and female characters are sadder. As a result of this research, 3 cartoons among to cartoons were made in Turkey and 1 cartoon among the cartoons were made in foreign countries have social stereotype, gender discrimination, gender phenomenon; it is also seen that this findings are equally distributed to male and female character in the 1 cartoons were made in foreign countries. As a result of research examination the gender phenomenon in the cartoons was recommended with more children and different provinces.
