Abstract:The aim of this study is to put forward the planning and application processes and the related problems of bicycle, which is a worldwide accepted transportation mode, in Turkey in the case study of Konya. Additionally, the position of the bicycle transportation among other alternative modes has been introduced and its complementary aspects for other modes have been emphasized by examining several applications both in Turkey and worldwide. Moreover, the applied proposals related to the use of bicycle and the reasons behind unapplied suggestions in transportation plans have been evaluated by examining the historical advance of bicycle transportation in Konya and the differences between the proposed and implemented decisions have been determined. In conclusion, it has been evaluated that by means of both the local and the central governments' efforts and by creating a common bicycle culture among people, the bicycle transportation can be an attractive transport mode in Turkey.
