Abstract:Aim of this study is studying the effect of dehydration on voice after 12 hours . A total of 51 people (31 woman and 20 men) were included in this study. Their age ranged between 21 and 59 years. Subjects with vocal symptoms or vocal fold lesions were excluded. The subjects were tested when they were on a normal day and while dehydrated because of abstinence of water and food intake. Each underwent acoustic analysis, GRBAS scoring. Jitter and shimmer from vocal acoustic parameters changed significantly markedly (p<0.05) Roughness, breathiness and strain was higher in dehydrated group. Fundamental frequency, noise harmonic ratio, grade and astenia score from GRBAS did not reveal any significant changes during dehydration. Adequate hydration is important for vocal hygiene and performance.
