Political Collocations in The Media Arabic (Examples and Analysis)

Abstract:

Collocations are lexical units which are made of at least two words and hava a tendecy to occur together with a greater than random frequency compared with other words. Mastering the grammatical rules and syntactic features of foreign language we learn is not alone enough in order to use that language in a natural, fluent, effective way and above all to produce it with native-like speakers. We should also have the adequate competence of the tendency of words to combine and have sufficient knowledge of usage diversity in vocabulary knowledge so as to use the language in a more accurate and proper way. The Media Arabic a lot of collocations used in newspapers, magazines and on radio and TV channnels in addition to the web sites on the internet. This study consists of four chapters including preamble and conlclusion. Searching model is selected since the study has a characteristic of qualitative research. In the first chapter, the need and importance of this study is argued and in the second chapter, the defintion of “collocation”, collocation in Arabic and significance of collocations are dealt with. In the third chapter, types of collocations and their lexical structures are given by illustrating them with examples. In the fouth chapter, collocations in different types and structures used in the political news of the Arab media are examined. The collocations taken from the various sources are analyzed in terms of their types and translation from Arabic to Turkish. Arabic media web sites and sources are utilized while choosing the collocational patterns and word combinations.
